My Top 25 Adobe After Effects Shortcut Keys

I have been using Adobe After Effects for over ten years and to become an efficient user you need to make use of it’s keyboard shortcuts. Here are twenty-five keyboard shortcuts that I use every time I’m working in After Effects.

  1. Increases or decreases the composition preview magnification : , (comma) or . (period)
  2. Sets the composition preview magnification to 100% : / (on main keyboard)
  3. Replaces footage in the timeline with new footage: option drag footage over layer in timeline
  4. Scales footage in timeline to fit the composition window: Option+Command+f
  5. Zooms the timeline in or out: – (hyphen) or = (equal sign)
  6. Sets the in-point or the out-point of the work area in the timeline; b or n
  7. Reveals all properties with keyframes on a selected layer in the timeline: u
  8. Reveals all changed properties on a selected layer in the timeline: uu
  9. Reveals the effects on a selected layer in the timeline: e
  10. Reveals all properties with expression on a selected layer in the timeline : ee
  11. Reveals transparency property on a selected layer in the timeline: t
  12. Reveals rotation property on a selected layer in the timeline: r
  13. Reveals position property on a selected layer in the timeline: p
  14. Reveals scale property on a selected layer in the timeline: s
  15. Reveals anchor point property on a selected layer in the timeline: a
  16. Cycles through Blending Modes on a selected layer in the timeline: shift+- (hyphen) or shift+=(equal sign)
  17. Adds active composition to the Render Queue: Control+Command+m
  18. Opens the Compositions Settings Window: Command+k
  19. Starts RAM Preview: 0 (on numerical keypad)
  20. Turns Title/Action Safe on and off: ‘ (apostrophe)
  21. Cycles through the camera tool properties (Unified Camera Tool, Orbit Camera Tool, Track XY Camera Tool, Track Z Camera Tool): c
  22. Moves the current time indicator to the start of the timeline (0:00:00:00): Home
  23. Moves the current time indicator to the end of the timeline: End
  24. Moves the current time indicator forward one frame or back one frame: Page Up or Page Down
  25. Moves the current time indicator forward ten frames or back ten frames: Page Up+Shift or Page Down+Shift
